New DHSC ministerial team

The Department of Health and Social Care has a new ministerial team following the July reshuffle, with Yvette Cooper now Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

She is joined by Dame Diana Johnson (Public Health and Patient Safety), Alison McGovern (Social Care and Mental Health), Karin Smyth (Secondary Care), Chris McDonald (Science, Innovation and Investment), James Frith (Health Innovation) and Baroness Merron (Women’s Health and Maternity).

For digital health companies, James Frith’s brief is particularly relevant, covering NHS data and technology, medtech, medicines, research and innovation, while Chris McDonald links DHSC into the wider life sciences agenda.

The graphic below summarises the team and their main areas of responsibility.
